So wonderful being invited into your creative world. Thank you for sharing! We are experiencing wildfires here in Southern California and I looked around my home and wondered, if I had to evacuate, what would I bring? Most definitely my journals. Always looking forward to your magical posts 💫

oh gosh i hope you are in a safe place - it sounds like it if you are only wondering what to save? My list too always included my journals They are too abundant now. So i think the question would be: which one?

Yes, luckily I am in a safe place! 🙏🏻

Oh, that would be a difficult decision to choose 📚 given all the wonderful journals you have!

Oh I love this little foray into you. Funny… I recently filled an empty wall with bookshelves so we could bring all our books home from storage. I found one of my first journals just yesterday! And photos of a much younger get me. I recognize that feeling you describe when you look back. I’m looking FORWARD, to your traipsing stories 💛

Ha! I love how you did that Samm...

The pain feeling? What is that?!

For me it feels a little regretful and a whole lot nostalgia. And a strong desire for a revisit and redo or do again, the same but different. Choices with more information perhaps.

I also found a pile of hard drives with backed up photos and videos. The voice of one particular “ghost”, a dear, dear friend who encouraged me to go to art school and who taught me so much of what I know now about textiles. While I heard her voice I could see little pieces of her all around me in my studio. Hearing her voice again was so hard. A similar but different pain.

Samm, I would love to have coffee and a chat someday. There is so much to write out and be self conscious of later! That which you describe is familiar in another way for sure. But the first pain of fifth grade was an object and imagined future self and all in my head. and all object.

As for your 'ghost' it is chilling, and another pain yet. Do we have words for all the different kinds of pain? Like different kinds of rain and clouds?

The school I went to for piano technology also had a bookbinding department, and I almost switched! It was so beautiful and interesting and I love the art. I had a wonderful time putting together my Anselm. I’d love to get deeper into the craft sometime. Maybe you will do another workshop and I will be there. :)

P s. That Hasselblad! Such a nice camera.

We are planning workshops at the barn! Would love for you to join us. I am so happy you enjoyed the Anselm. I loved that camera and used it for so many years!

Your workshop on bookbinding was a lot of fun. I too have a book passion. Just holding a book and thinking of the possibilities, reading and other, is marvelous. So thank you for sparking my interest and I have found a whole new world when I needed one…and Venice was where you found your first! Wow. An adventurous life shared! Thank you. I’m now picturing you in a band, writing songs and singing in cold places. With a hand bound book nearby…love it.

I love binding my own books, and I was so overjoyed when you shared your little tutorial of binding a journal without a cover. I've used it several times. I love this peek into your history.

I loved your stories. I can't believe someone would steal your journal! I would have gone into mourning for a week. Someone stole my paintbrushes, the whole container, brushes I had from childhood! They were an extension of myself. I wore black for weeks.

You are brave to reread your journals. I'm glad you kept them. I threw mine out during a rough time! I haven't kept one since. I have several, but cannot seem to write in them.

I love the journals in your shop.

I like so much how you never let anything dry up Margaux. It’s always in the books maybe, past and present. 💘
